I just replaced all 4 slide toppers on my 2008 3400RL after bad weather destroyed all of them about 5 weeks ago. Dometic says each spring should be wound to 13 turns. The fabric manufacturer recommended giving the springs an additional "couple" turns to mitigate aged springs. I wound mine to 18 turns and have eliminated a lot of "flapping" in moderate wind and so far I have had no water accumulate on any of them. There IS an adjustment for tension, but you've got to remove each one and rewind the springs. This can be a hazardous undertaking because the springs are under A LOT of tension.
