I just upgraded to the Genie (record 5 shows at once - YEA!!!!) and a mini-Genie (watch DVR recorded shows in another room) for no charge. Yes, I had to commit to two more years of services. I had an order glitch and had to talk to their retention folks to get it straightened out. They were great and after everything was fixed, she asked if there was anything else I needed or bothering me. Being somewhat slow on the uptake, I replied no - you took care of my problem. So she comes back with "how is the price?" to which I answered it is expensive and keeps going up. Well that is what she wanted me to say so she could offer me some discounts! I was given two discounts for a total of $25 off my bill for 12 months. Then she said to be sure and call back when they expire and see what discounts they had available then.

As I said before, I am locked in to DirecTV, but discounts make it more tolerable.
