Assuming as you said you checked the oil and it was not discolored or over full. Perhaps ... the belt was squealing because the battery was low and the alternator was in full bore mode ... the ticking could be a lifter(s) since it has set for a while ... the fluid level ... maybe it was low when you left for the land of the blue hairs and didn't notice it. Run it several miles down the road and see if it returns to it's old self. Sometimes friends don't exactly live up to their duties over the winter ... check mileage???
