I retired in 1996 and wife in 2000. We both have pensions and both get SS plus we have a 401 which we hope we don't have to draw from for a long time. When we retired we were debt free and still are. If we can't pay for it we don't buy it. We own the stick house and hopefully sometime in the future the market will get better so we can sell it and downsize into a small condo where everything is taken care of while we're on the road. In the meantime we are doing fine and really enjoying retirement.
