In prior years the Ford F450 was "governed" to a lower HP/Torque figure (for whatever reason)...the engine had the higher HP and torque, you just were not able to use it in the F450. Similarly, the new power stroke obviously had the higher figures to begin with...I suspect that in an effort to deal with the copy cats/one upmans (if that is a word), Ford had planned this move all along. In the end, it does not seem to matter what is fact, because each of the big three will continue to claim biggest/best. For those of us who buy trucks for their ability to work, it does not matter what the boasts are...what matters is whether or not the truck can do what we want it to do. For me, it is to safely pull my fifth wheel...not how fast or how "soft" the ride is...leave that foolishness to cars.

Ford only detuned the Hp/Torque in the 2008 - 2010 F450 with the 4.88 rear gear. The 4.10 gear F450's had the full rated engine power.
