We used a latch that you can get at Lowes. It was originally intended for a window but works well on door. We have a cat also. He learned early on how to open the screen door with the OEM latch. This one takes some pressure to open it.....look around and you can find something that will work for you......Lowes and Home Depot have been my friends since fulltiming....
