The OP's trailer is 16,600gvw. At 21% pin @ gvw would equal 3652lbs. which will be more than the payload of the 3/4 Laramie. At 23% = 3818. Empty weight which it can't and won't be is 13,950 @ 22% = 3069lbs. Maybe the brakes have finally said "I give" after trying to stop that much? A trip to the scale would be highly recommended.

As far as the brakes I had a new SUV do that a couple of times at startup - very disconcerting. It never did it again. You said it was after a trip so I assume immediately after. Did it happen only once? Was it a hard trip (braking)? As others mentioned you need to look it all over then have someone very knowledgeable check it out. As I'm sure you know brake failure with that big of a trailer behind you will not be fun.

I take my vehicles to the dealer any more so don't tear into them anymore but I'm wondering if there isn't some sort of computer interaction with the brake pedal/feel that might be affecting it in some way?
