Maybe you should check out Torklift Glowstep Revolution Scissor Step with Landing Gear. Those are sturdy and maybe there won't be an issue with space.
Also, would work for those who don't want the stairs inside their unit. Check on etrailer. With all the reasons I stated before I don't want them inside.
