You guys are making this too hard. For cargo capacity, look at the Tire and Loading Information sticker on the driver's door frame...it's different for every truck. Don't forget to reduce that...

To tell you the truth, I don't remember. My extension is 30'....yes it was expensive, but when you need it....you need it. Since you are making your own, better a bit longer than too short.

I have a 25' extension and have used it twice. On one occasion we were in a parking spot backwards so our big rear window would fact the river we were on. The spot was designed for a motor home.

Why change from two 12v batteries to four 6v batteries if the amps produced are close to being the same? We have some RVing friends who did the opposite....went from four 6v to two 12v...works fine.

We have two Lasko towers to supplement on board heat. Just remember all electric heaters, including RV fireplaces, can put out a max of 1,500 watts.

The problem is not "towing." Most 250/2500s can "tow" and remain in specs. What they cannot do is remain within specs for the cargo capacity...as noted on the Tire and Loading Information sticker...
