I had a 13 ft door installed and now I am looking at having it replaced with a 14 ft. So I would say go 14 ft it will not be much difference in price.

Are you sure it was ground & neutral that got crossed? Crossing groud and neutral should not cause any problems as they are bonded at the source.

I carried a 14' Gregor fishing boat over the cab of my last 2 trucks. they were both long bed x-cab. I don't think you would have a problem doing the same.
