Make sure the surge suppressor is mounted in the proper orientation (see instructions) or it will not last. The dropout relay inside works best and is quieter when the suppressor is mounted correctly.

Best bet is to just leave the battery disconnect on at all times unless you are working on the converter or the 12 volt electrical systems inside the rig. Doing so, you need to be hooked up to shore...

I would accept their repair and move on. IMO further messing with it will cause more damage than it's worth. I doubt the gear boxes will ever go dry. You want a roof that won't leak.
