We did this mod this spring as well. Our water heater is under the cabinet next to the sink so it was a pretty easy job to put a switch in the cabinet by the sink. Works great.

Ours doesn't have any control adjustment other than moving the sensor on the fin. Just needed to adjust it a little in this hot weather. Been hitting 100 every day this week.

Great advice. I had the vibrating fan when I turned the A/C on last year and found the mud daubers nest on the fan. It's an easy fix if you know what to look for.
