I tend to agree with Mike, if you can get it cheap enough and are handy enough to do repairs it could work. But if you'll have to pay to have everything worked on it can be a real money pit.

Not for everyone, but we just avoid driving at night. Normally parked for the day by mid-afternoon. Plus as we age, I find I don't much care for night time driving if I don't have too.
