I should have tried that. I gave up trying to get the coupling over those knuckles (and after scraping my knuckles trying to do so) I have it "rigged " for now. I appreciate the feedback

ok will try that - is there a risk of septic liquids coming up through a failed anti-siphon valve if it has failed? That's all I am trying to prevent till I can locate that thing.

Yes - I do that when camping. This one is being lived in full time so I might ask the resident to do that periodically to exercise the dump valves and flush out any residue hanging around. Thanks!

That was it hopefully - the tightening collar on the black tank flush connection was finger loose. Four revolutions to tighten hopefully will have fixed the issue.
