I turned mine to the rear to give a little more clearance for the tailgate when I lower it. Have towed a lot of miles and it tows fine. I can't see that inch and a half having any significant effect.

Some units do not have an inside water heater...

Some units do not have an inside water heater switch and the only way to turn them on/off is via the outside switch. So the water heater comes with that switch to account for those installations....
