Replaced ours with a ball valve. No more worrying about misplacing a cap. We also put a ball valve on our low point drain for ice maker on residential fridge.

Our 3121 had same thing when we purchased. Smell would go away when tanks were closed. It was a leak at regulator. Had dealer replace and everything is fine now.
